It’s not hard to understand why so many people look at Washington with disgust. Between the broken promises, personal agendas, cheating, lying, scandals, and myriad of other disturbing characteristics which make up 99% of U.S. politicians, it can be very hard to see any good being done. While campaigning, they kiss babies, promise the unachievable, make deals, and do whatever it takes to climb to the top.
Today’s typical politician is a far fetch from the public servant mentality which the Founding Fathers possessed.
“..they are supported by a sense of duty and the respect paid to usefulness. It is honorable to be so employed, but it was never made profitable by salaries, fees, or perquisites. And indeed in all cases of public service, the less the Profit the greater the honor.” –Benjamin Franklin
“In selecting men for office, let principle be your guide. Regard not the particular sect or denomination of the candidate — look to his character….” -Noah Webster
Think of all of the politicians, both Republican and Democrat, in your state that simply run for any level of public office because of the benefits they will reap. They’ll make more money, become a type of “celebrity,” climb the ladder of success, etc, etc. The list goes on and on. The mentality of serving the public, making our country better, not for ones own agenda, but for the good of the people, following the Constitution, making the government less intrusive and more restricted is all but dead.
Check out Breitbart’s “10 Most Corrupt Politicians of 2012” for a few examples.
Instead of continually re-electing politicians who are simply going to Washington for a personal agenda, it’s time American’s stand firm and elect candidates who genuinely desire to serve the public to the best of their ability while strengthening our nation and our freedom.
With the bucket loads of scandal’s currently drowning the Obama administration, it proves that when the people don’t elect men and women of good character both the citizens and the country suffer.
