Former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell, famous for his remarkable story of survival after a being chased in Afghanistan, spoke to CNN’s Anderson Cooper giving his opinion on the Bergdahl swap.
Luttrell emphasized the fact that this trade increasingly endangers the lives of soldiers in Afghanistan because they are seen as a more valuable target for the Taliban.
Cooper asked Luttrell, “Had the situation with you been different, would you have wanted an exchange of prisoners?”
In classic Navy SEAL style, Luttrell answered, “No.When I went out there, I knew the risks and I accepted those. If I died on the battlefield, then that was the way it was supposed to be. When I did get captured, the only thing I held onto was the fact that my teammates were going to come get me, period.”
Luttrell’s views reflects widespread thought throughout the military about Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, many of whom consider him a deserter and even possibly a traitor.
