In the wake of the new border crisis, liberals have been calling for amnesty for the 50,000 unaccompanied children from Latin America. Three-quarters of those children are from the crime-ridden countries of Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. A lot of progressive politicians and left-wing commentators have been going to television, demanding President Obama to keep these children in America.
Liberal commentator Michael Tomasky called Republicans “border bigots” that are appealing to the “raging xenophobia of their base.” Congressman Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) said “it is immoral, and (fear mongering) ought to stop. Among the children are little girls who are fleeing those who would abuse their bodies.” U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) said he opposes deportation of the children.
“My inclination is to remember what happened when a ship full of Jewish children tried to come to the United States in 1939 and the United States turned them away, and many of them went to their deaths in Nazi concentration camps.”
“We are not a country that should send children away and send them back to certain death. I believe that we should be guided by the greatest power we have as a people, and that is the power of our principles. Through all of our great world religions, we are told that hospitality to strangers is an essential human dignity.”
The hypocrisy of this is how a few days later, Governor O’Malley turned away the children from the great blue state of Maryland. According to CNN, Governor O’Malley told White House adviser Cecilia Munoz in a private phone conversation to not dump the children to his state. For some reason, the governor has serious concerns over converting a former Army Reserve Center in Westminster, Maryland to house the children.
Disgusting. This is perhaps the most appalling hypocrisy I have ever heard. But wait, it gets worse!
According to Breitbart, Governor Dan Malloy (D-CT) denied the federal government’s request to house up to 2,000 illegal children in the blue state of Connecticut. One of Malloy’s staffers said in an email that “Any new and significant activity at Southbury would be intensively scrutinized by a multitude of interest groups and organizations, and would face time-consuming challenges.” Oh really?
Yet, Governor Malloy is a champion of amnesty. In 2011, he signed into law a bill that gave illegal immigrants in-state college tuition, the 13th state to pass such a law. Just a month ago, Malloy signed a bill that gave illegals the ability to obtain driver’s licenses.
Liberal hypocrisy at its worst.
