Are the ‘Pro-Israel’ Scales Tipping in Hollywood?

In my last article, I identified the divide in Hollywood over the ongoing situation in Israel. While that divide remains, it seems that Hollywood celebrities are leaning more in favor of Israel.

“Those denouncing Israel include Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Pedro Almodovar, Lola Herrara, Eduardo Noriega, Rosa Maria Sarda, Montxo Armendariz, Benito Zambrano, Amaral & Nacho Campillo as well as dozens more Spanish actors, directors, musicians and writers. In an open letter, they describe Israel’s actions as genocide and call upon the EU to condemn Israel’s bombing of Palestinian civilians that is occurring in the Gaza Strip,” I said in my last piece.

Actor John Voight called out his peers in a column featured in the Hollywood Reporter, where he expressed his support for Israel, and condemned his peers for their criticisms of Israel.  Voight was not the only Hollywood celebrity who expressed his support for Israel. Joan Rivers also defended Israel and called out CNN and BBC saying that they should be “ashamed of themselves”.

While there is still a divide over this issue in Hollywood, it seems that the scales are tipping in favor of Israel. Last week more Hollywood celebrities came out in support of Israel. Not only have Voight and Rivers expressed their support of Israel, but so have the stars of Expendables 3.

In fact, “No fewer than 183 celebrities, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Mayim Bialik, Minnie Driver, Kelsey Grammer, Seth Rogen, Rosanne Barr and Sarah Silverman have signed a letter expressing their regret for the “devastating loss of life endured by Israelis and Palestinians in Gaza,” as reported by The Washington Free Beacon.

In addition, these celebrities are speaking out against Hamas’ “ideologies of hatred and genocide” which are reflected in their charter, according to the Free Beacon.

The letter was scheduled to be published yesterday in publications such as Billboard, Variety and the Hollywood Reporter. While the divided in Hollywood, over the situation in Israel remains, it seems to be much smaller, as more Hollywood celebrities, seem to support Israel, rather than those who do not support Israel. As I would surmise the 183 who signed the letter in support of Israel, is greater than the “dozens” who signed the Penelope Cruz letter condemning Israel…
