Dan Bongino, a self-described “conservatarian” running for Congress to represent Maryland’s 6th district, has publicly wondered why, despite massive grassroots support, the Republican establishment is refusing to support his campaign:
What’s your reason for ignoring me, and the many others fighting for this magical country’s tomorrows? Do I not fit into your box? Is it my youth, my message, or is it that I haven’t firmly planted my lips on your rear-end?
I’m a Republican because I believe liberty matters and we should not surrender OUR party to cronyists and connected-insiders.
The 39 year-old former Secret Service agent and small business owner has raised nearly one million dollars, mostly on small individual donations, drawing enthusiastic grassroots support in a district that had a Republican Congressman from 1993 through 2012.
This past week, Bongino got his answer.
I was paid a tremendous compliment recently, although it wasn’t intended to be one. One of our staff members was up near Capitol Hill a few days ago and, while engaging in a discussion with a “connected” DC-insider, the staff member asked why the Party infrastructure was not supporting my campaign. The response was priceless. The insider said, “Because he won’t do s%!# for us if he gets elected.”
Now, this “connected” insider may not realize it but, that he understood that with crystal-clear clarity tells me that, win or lose, I did it the right way.
There you have it, folks. Because Bongino refuses to bow down to the elitist Washington insiders, they will oppose him at every turn, forsaking both party and principle. I don’t know about you, but that’s precisely the kind of candidate we need to shake up a Washington that has become consumed with corruption and scandal.
Fixing this will not be quick, nor easy, but it is our only choice. I refuse to forfeit because the task is a difficult one.
Nothing worth having will come easy. I spent nearly my entire adult life combatting corruption, financial crime, and mismanagement, and I plan to relentlessly pursue this same agenda within the tainted halls of Congress. I’m not going there looking to make friends.
Bongino was a New York police officer before becoming a top agent in the Secret Service. His bestselling book Life Inside the Bubble details his observations of a dangerously overgrown federal bureaucracy. In his race against a Democrat incumbent, who happens to be the third-richest member of Congress, Bongino remains an optimistic warrior, driven to fight corruption.
