Republicans everywhere should take a close look at how Rand Paul has turned the Left’s game on themselves. Too often Republicans find themselves having to answer the most ridiculous questions so they get pigeonholed and marginalized, and they either end up capitulating or apologizing for their position.
Rand Paul refused to do either. The media repeatedly asked him if he supported exceptions for abortion in the extremely rare cases wherein there is rape or incest. Paul said he has supported legislation with and without the exceptions, but that the better question is when the Democrat Party says life begins.
Rand Paul answered the question with a question: “You go back and ask Debbie Wasserman Schultz if she’s okay with killing a seven pound baby not yet born yet. Go ask her when life begins and when she’s willing to protect life. When you get an answer from Debbie, come back to me.”
Just as Paul knew she would, Debbie Wassermann Schultz proved both her radicalism and her ineptitude by falling right into his trap, essentially admitting that she supports abortion on demand with no restrictions, an extreme view that is wildly out of step with the vast majority of Americans.
Don’t miss this. On the first day of his presidential campaign, Rand Paul forced the leader of the DNC to admit its radical pro-abortion position. 86 percent of Americans say that third-trimester abortions should continue to be banned, but the head of the Democrat National Committee said she wants abortion with no limits whatsoever.
Rand Paul is showing Republicans that we should never apologize for our principles, because we are the reasonable ones who stand up for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We stand for all Americans, even the smallest and most defenseless among us.
The media may bristle at Paul’s take-no-crap approach, even calling him “sexist” or “not ready for prime time,” but it’s exactly this sort of authenticity that has led to a tidal wave of support from conservatives and lovers of liberty.
Glenn Beck and his team at The Blaze called it “brilliant,” while Rush Limbaugh and Laura Ingraham also praised him for turning the tables on the media and the Democrats.
Not only is Rand Paul right to take on the leftist mainstream media for their disingenuous coverage, but more Republicans should be doing it. Force the Left to defend their radicalism. Never back down from a fight and never apologize for standing on the side of life and liberty.
