On Sunday, June 12th, early in the morning, at the nightclub in Orlando, Florida, frequented by members of the LGBT community, America saw its worst terror attack since September 11, 2001. A hate filled Islamic extremist walked into the Pulse night club and opened fire.
After the massacre was over, the lives of 49 people were lost and 54 others were taken to the hospital. The actions of this madman showed a blatant and wanton disregard for the sanctity of human life.
Almost instantly, America saw countless people offering their prayers and support for the victims, their friends, and their family members. They stood with them and offered condolences in the midst of this horrific terrorist attack.
At the same time, President Obama, along with Democratic members of Congress, Senate, and other Federal and local government officials across the country used this attack to reignite their anti-gun agenda, while dead bodies were still on floor of the night club.
Immediately, anti-gun groups and celebrities followed suit, and actual began blaming the NRA and the “Christian Right” for this attack. These people were doing this even though the attacker, Omar Mateen, a Pakistani native, American citizen, and registered Democratic voter was a radical Muslim who recently pledged his allegiance to ISIS.
Omar Mateen called 911 right before the attack and claimed he was about to commit the attack in the name of ISIS. Witnesses reported him shouting Allahu Akbar before beginning his rampage. This attack was not an incident of workplace violence, and it was not a lone wolf attack. It was an Islamic terrorist attack, plain and simple.
Instead of giving a speech from a position of strength and condemning radical Islam, President Obama claimed it was America, not radical Islam who should take the blame, and that more gun control is needed.
This was a huge slap in the face to all those affected by this terrorist attack. The President showed absolutely no respect for the dead or for the survivors of this horrific tragedy.
What is even worse is that when the Speaker of the House called a moment of silence, liberal Democrat Congressmen staged a protest and walked out of the chambers, completely disrespecting the dead. This shows how the left truly feels about incidents like this.
Let’s talk about the gun control debate that ensued and debunk a few gun control myths and correlate how they apply to this situation.
Some said we need expanded background checks to keep attacks like this from happening. A well-known fact in this case is that the shooter legally purchased his firearms and his background check was approved, even though he was on the FBI terror watch list and had ties to ISIS, who also claimed responsibility for the attack.
The media was quick to call his weapon of choice an AR-15, as the liberal media usually does when a mass shooting happens. This term is used to demonize a popular sporting rifle available at most gun shops. The actual rifle used in the attack was a Sig Sauer MCX semiautomatic rifle. This rifle has the functionality to be able to swap between a few different calibers, and has no known parts even compatible with AR-15s.
Another myth was that the perpetrator used an “assault rifle.” This term is also thrown out by the media and anti-gun groups to scare people. Obama even called for a reinstatement of the assault weapons ban, which did nothing to stop the Columbine High School shooters.
First of all, the Sig Sauer MCX, AR-15, and other similar rifles are not assault rifles. While they may “look” like their actual assault rifle counterparts, they are vastly different. A true assault rifle has a selector switch to switch between semiautomatic (one round fired per trigger pull) and fully automatic (multiple rounds fired for each trigger pull).
Second, fully automatic rifles are nearly impossible to get. You need to apply for one, pay a tax stamp, and go through a very strict background check which takes anywhere from 3 to 6 months. On top of that you also have to register the fully automatic weapon. If that wasn’t already difficult enough, the average cost for one of these fully automatic weapons ranges from $7,000 to over $20,000.
The other myth was that if Florida had stricter gun control laws in place, the shooting would not have happened. This could not be further from the truth. Florida does have relaxed gun control laws.
However, the night club itself was an enforced gun free zone. I guess the shooter didn’t realize that. I’m sure if they would have made the no guns allowed sign bigger, he would have just walked away. At least that is what liberals would have you believe. No amount of gun control would have prevented this tragedy from happening.
This attack only proves that Americans need to arm themselves now more than ever. We need to send a message that we will not lie down and let these cowards attack and kill our citizens.
The LGBT pro gun group, Pink Pistols, sent a message loud and clear to the LGBT community. They stated that the LGBT community can no longer support gun control and that members of the LGBT community need protect themselves. Had a concealed carrier been in that night club, the casualty count likely wouldn’t have been nearly as high.
With ISIS becoming more and more of a threat, and the fact that they have infiltrated America, we need to be vigilant, aware, and ready to defend ourselves and our loved ones. We also need to pray for those affected and offer our support in this difficult time. Let us show them that we are the compassionate ones, not the left who uses dead people to push their un-Constitutional gun control agenda.
