According to the Washington Post, Donald Trump has switched parties at least five times since the late 80’s. The most recent time he switched parties was in April 2012, when he switched back to the Republican party. In honor of the flip-flopping, I’ve compiled a list of things that have lasted as long as or longer than the amount of time that Donald Trump has recently been a Republican.
- The Comeback of the Furby
Like Donald Trump’s relationship with the Republican party, Furbies have come in and out of style. Their most recent comeback was in 2012 – the year Trump too made a comeback to the Republican party.
Most of the current class of kindergartners were born in 2010 or 2011, meaning the little adorable children — many of whom are learning not to pick their nose and how to tie their shoes — have outlasted Trump’s recent four years as a Republican.
- Miley Cyrus’s sanity
Miley Cyrus was arguably sane for most of her Hannah Montana career, which lasted from 2006-2011 — or at least Hannah Montana was sane for longer than Trump’s Republican run.
- Heelys – The sneaker with a wheel
Invented in 2000, one year into Trump’s short ’99-’01 Independence Party alliance, the the sneaker with a wheel started an epic primary school trend. Since the invention, Trump has switched parties in 2001, 2009, 2011, and 2012. Trump fell for the next party quicker than the average child fell from their Heelys.
- Ford engines
Found on the road dead – but still more consistent than Trump has been at staying in the same party.
- The iPad 2
The iPad 2 was released in 2011 – the year before Trump’s flip to his current party.
- Our current President being President
When President Obama was elected, Trump was not a Republican. In fact, Trump switched nearly four years into President Obama’s presidency.
- Blue Ivy
Yes – Beyonce’s adorable daughter has been alive longer than Trump has recently been aligned with the GOP.
- Toy Story 3
The most recent tear-jerker in the series about talking toys was released two years before Trump’s party switching date.
- This Hamburger
I don’t actually understand why a person would hold onto a hamburger for so long. But after 15 years, this hamburger is more intact than any of Trump’s decisions.
- Trump’s recent stint at being a Democrat
Trump was a Democrat for eight years before he briefly declined to take sides in 2011 and then switched back to the GOP in 2012.
Things that haven’t outlasted Trump’s recent stint at being a Republican:
Taylor Swift’s longest relationship. (But is this really shocking though?)
The life expectancy of Hillary Clinton’s emails.
