What is Cannabis Oil?
Nowadays there is a lot of hype around cannabis oil and on the internet you will find all kinds of information, websites and products. However, as there are different types of oil, all made from the hemp plant, there is some confusion and confusion about what exactly organic cannabis oil is.
Cannabis Oil and Hemp Oil
The term cannabis oil is an umbrella term for oils that are made from the cannabis plant, or the hemp plant. They therefore have ingredients that come from the hemp plant. Such an oil can be made from the plant itself that is, from the flowers and leaves of the cannabis plant. We call this cannabis oil. But oil can also be made from the seeds of the hemp plant, which is called hemp oil, or hemp seed oil. Hemp oil is therefore not cannabis oil.
Why is this distinction important?
The cannabis plant contains chemicals called cannabinoids and the two main ones are cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). There is a big difference between the two: the cannabinoid THC is a psychoactive substance. It will make you ‘high’ or ‘stoned’. Organic CBD is the main non-psychoactive cannabinoid in the plant.
After the extraction of the plant material, both cannabinoids remain in the cannabis products. But the seeds of the hemp plant do not contain any THC. Cannabis oil therefore contains THC, even if it is only traces, but hemp oil or hemp seed oil does not in principle contain THC. In principle, because it can happen that during production plant material adheres to the hemp seeds, so that traces of THC end up in the hemp seed oil. So, again, the main difference is that cannabis oil contains THC but hemp oil or hemp seed oil does not contain THC.
Different types of cannabis oil
Different oils are not made from the seeds of the plant. There are all kinds of hemp products with all different names such as CBD oil, hash oil, THC oil, CBG oil, marijuana oil, cannabis oil or Rick Simpson oil.
