Yogyakarta is a town in central Java, Indonesia, famous for the traditional arts and cultural heritage like the famous Borobudur complex. It’s the favorite destination for tourists who need a fast experience of traditional civilization. If you think if Yogyakarta is well worth a trip or what are a few of the cool things that you can do in this town, then you’re at the ideal location. Listed below are the top things to do in Yogyakarta:

    1. Borobudur in Sunrise

You need to see the Borobudur during sunrise since that’s the only time the temple isn’t overly crowded. The complex will probably be shrouded together with locals, tourists, and foreigners alike throughout the afternoon. You’ll find it tough to enjoy the perspective in isolation when the natives will request that you have a photograph together spain tourist spots every couple of moments. It was worse for blond, black, tall western-looking tourists! The sunrise excursion begins at 4 AM, so sleep the day before. To find out more, I have written concerning the sunrise excursion here.

If you’re riding a motorbike, then the manner is relatively straightforward. First, get on the primary road, then only drive right until you find a hint to return to Borobudur. The trip took about two hours away.

    1. Stop by The Chicken Church (Gereja Ayam)

What’s the Chicken Church you requested? Well, it’s a church shaped like poultry, duh! Laura had also tipped us to look at this place once we saw Borobudur. So, together with all our motorbike, we rode northwest Borobudur and walked up a steep route towards the peak of a mountain in which the church has been situated.

You need to pay to reach the top, but we did not spend money, so we moved and hiked the road behind the church instead and found a wonderful viewpoint together with the view of the tropical land of Java and also Borobudur from afar. From what we discovered, this view article was a location for individuals to view sunrise; however, they also moved it out to other areas for unknown factors.

    1. Bewildered By Rare Plants at The Gembira Loka Zoo

If you’re short on time and cannot visit Komodo island but willing to see the Komodo dragons, this zoo will be the very best shot. The zoo also had a fantastic group of wild creatures like the giant tortoise and all sorts of creepy reptiles. The zoo itself was very peaceful, and we had been there as it was raining, so we had the entire place to ourselves.

    1. Walk About The Water Temple

The water is also, you guessed it, a temple having water. The temple itself is relatively unique concerning design but what made me curious was the village around the temple. The tiny roads crisscrossing down and up mountains were enjoyable to research and allowed me to observe how the natives live.

    1. Have a Look at The Prambanan Temple

Prambanan is a 9th-century Hindus temple located northeast of town. It’s the largest Hindus temple site in South East Asia. If you haven’t seen the Angkor Wat in Cambodia, this area will provide you a flavor of what’s to come. However, even if you’ve observed the Angkor Wat, then the amazing temples scattered around the Prambanan compound provide an exceptional look at the assortment of Hindu culture and art throughout this period.

    1. Cool Down In The Parangtritis Beach

Many folks didn’t know there is a beach you’ll be able to visit in Yogyakarta. It’s known as the Parangtritis beach, and this is 2 hours motorbike-ride south of the town center. The beach provides an excellent spot to cool down by researching all of the attractions across Yogyakarta, but I recall these tidal currents. The tidal currents are powerful here, and they may haul you out into the sea in moments. We had been there for 5 minutes and needed to rescue a child from being hauled out from the sea!

    1. Taste the Traditional Dishes

Yogyakarta has some delicious and cheap traditional dishes which you can find at many places. Gudeg is the most popular dish you have to taste when you visit this town. Gudeg is made of jackfruit cooked for a few hours. You can easily find it at Wijilan, as it is the central area of this food. Apart from gudeg, there are also local snacks such as bakpia, yangko, gethuk, and tiwul. Bring some for your family or friends in your hometown as souvenirs so that they will feel the spirit of Yogyakarta.
