One of the many foundational parts of our home is the walls. While we aren’t always thinking of drywall there are a lot of things to consider before you choose any type of drywall to add to your home.
7 types of drywall
Standard –
The most common type of drywall is standard drywall which has no special characteristics. There’s nothing special about it.
Moisture-resistant –
There’s also moisture resistant drywall which helps protect the drywall and your walls from black mold and damage should there be a water leak, flooding, or other water damage. This drywall is a favorite for bathrooms or other water-focused areas.
Mold-resistant –
This type of drywall is typically purple, so it stands out. If your home is in an area that’s known for flooding and high-water, this drywall is a must.
Fire-resistant –
Another must-have should you live in an area prone to fires is fire-resistant drywall. Though, because of the extra costs involved with fire-resistant drywall, your drywall contractors will often suggest using this in commercial buildings as opposed to homes.
Be sure to discuss the options with your drywall contractor, so they can help you choose which style will be best for your needs as this drywall comes in various styles.
Soundproof –
Soundproof drywall is similar to standard drywall only with more polymers, gypsum, and wood fibers. The extra layers help prevent extra noise from seeping through your walls.
Non-paper or Paperless –
As the name suggests, this drywall does not have paper as part of its materials. Instead, it is covered with fiberglass and is common in both kitchens and bathrooms.
Eco-friendly –
For the environmentally cautious homeowner, this is a great solution. All materials used are earth-friendly and recycled.
There are many brands on the market today for eco-friendly drywall solutions so be sure you do your research or ask your drywall contractors for more information on which option they suggest.
