If you are usually calm in stressful situations and think you have what it takes to be one? Then, here’s your guide to becoming a flight attendant.
What Does it Take?
Here are the minimum flight attendant qualifications (คุณสมบัติ แอร์ โฮสเตส, which is the term in Thai) that one requires attaining the job.
- Educational Qualifications: In most cases being a high school graduate will suffice. But some enterprises prefer graduates with a degree in hotel management and communication. For people, skills are an essential part of the job. And if you can certify that you have attended and qualified in training for flight attendants, then nothing better.
- Age: Usually the ideal age for becoming a flight attendant is 18-21. However, this may vary with varying enterprises.
- Marital Status: Unmarried applicants will be preferred for the job of a flight attendant.
- Vision: A normal 20/20 vision or a minimum 20/30 vision will suffice.
- Height and Weight: While there are usually no specifications for weight, it is better if it is considered proportional to your height. Your height, however, must be within 150-190 centimeters ( 4’11” – 6’3”)
- Hair and Makeup: No unconventional or informal hairstyle or hair color is acceptable for qualifying as a flight attendant.
- Tattoos and Piercings: While these are a big no if you do have tattoos that can be hidden under a cloth. It will not pose a problem in your job application.
- Fitness: A flight attendant needs to be excellently fit as the job often requires you to work in extreme conditions. You may have to handle a lot of loads, work in pressurized cabins, and walk miles to reach the airplane, and so on.
- Behavioral Qualifications: At your job, you need to be a pleasing, positive personality with a strong presence of mind. You also need excellent verbal and literacy skills. You will also need to take on an extra workload as flight delays are not uncommon and you must have teamwork skills as in a flight, you will never be working alone.
The selection process is not very complex. If you have these basic flight attendant qualifications, the first step is an application which will need your resume. The second step is a one-way or an on-demand video where you answer the necessary company questions. The final step is a face-to-face interview to practically test your working skills. Once selected, you need to pass the background and drug use check and then you are good to go.
