Want a distinct adventure of a summer holiday in the land of Sulawesi? Just visit Bunaken National Park on your next trip. Bunaken National Park truly is a celebrated draw in North of Sulawesi that shows outstanding marine biodiversity.

As among the most popular websites for divers and travelers in Indonesia, Bunaken National Park offers the sheer joy of adventure on beautiful beaches and a graceful view of a submerged world abundant with marine life worth exploring.

    Location

The park is located in Minahasa, Manado, where the majority of the people are still Christians. The playground also consists of 5 islands, namely Bunaken, Manado Tua (Old Manado), Mantehage, Nain, and Siladen. All of these offer excellent diving locations along with the Tanjung Kelapa shore settled in the southern area of the park.

The convention of the everyday life of the natives could be experienced at the 22 villages within this thickly populated park. Roughly 35,000 people are inhabiting the area, many of whom are fishermen and farmers. They export agriculture products such as coconut, sweet potato, banana, or seaweed. A few locals operate as dive guides, boat operators, and cabin staff from the tourism industry.

The region is booming with the tourism industry. Lodging company can be found, ranging from backpacker cottages to five stars hotels. Around 25 percent of international traffic made up 32,000 into 39,000 visitors involving 2003 and 2006.

    History

Bunaken National Park has a whole area of 890.65 km², most of them are marine lands with a little space of the park terrestrial involving the five islands.

Ahead of its establishment in 1991, Bunaken National park was a remote area in the Soeharto regime. Summer proved to be a rare item and not a part of many Indonesians’ leisure actions at that moment. Just several people with specific professions could get distant places.

From the 1970s, an investigation was created by several sailors at the park. Mystical beliefs about the park still strongly influenced the locals at that moment. When the sailors discovered the heaven of marine life in the area, they reported it to the government.

The playground is one of the first of Indonesia’s rising community of marine parks. Nevertheless, its status as a national park doesn’t protect it from continuous degradation. Activities that endanger the park have been coral mining, anchor damage, blast fishing, cyanide fishing, snorkeling, and garbage.

Because of these degradations, The World Wildlife Fund gives conservation assistance in the National Park as part of the Sulu Sulawesi Marine Ecoregion Action Plan. This includes participatory authorities, also patrol, which resulted in a significant reduction of blast fishing.

The Way to Explore Bunaken National Park

Attractions in Bunaken National Park draw on the soul of its customers’ experience by the exotic scenery of North Sulawesi Island. Among these are four chief islands in which many of them possess the fantastic diving areas in Indonesia. Diving and snorkeling are the top activities to perform in the playground.
