The last time we talked about Karaoke and free downloadable backing tracks, we forgot to say one thing. No, nothing fundamental, just a little thing. But able to make the whole speech useless, invalidating it with a banality. Let’s resolve the matter immediately, before making the situation worse. It is a matter inherent to all of us, human beings: each of us has its own voice, its own vocal timbre, its own natural tonality. And as a result, we can’t expect to sing all the songs, fine.
However, we can solve the problem by adjusting the key of an MP3 file to ours, thus allowing us to perform in tune. To do this we can use an online service, completely free: Transposr.com
How to change the key of an MP3 song
Of course we can also use this site for less trivial reasons than karaoke, but don’t ask me which ones: I can’t think of any.
The concept and the practice are simple: we upload an MP3 file on the site, we indicate the starting tone and the tone we want to obtain. And then let’s download our new MP3 file. Let’s take a closer look at these 3 steps to take to change the key of an MP3 song.
So, I was saying that we have to start by uploading the song we want to change the key on the site. Just click on Upload and then choose the right file from our computer. Note: If your music file has a different extension, use the free online mp3 converter. Obviously the loading time will depend on the size of the file, and as a result a longer song will take longer to load, convert and download again with the new key.
After loading the MP3 file, the difficulties begin: we have to explain to the application what the key of our song is. How to do? By ear, first of all. It is not a simple operation, and there is not even a procedure that allows us to know it precisely: even if usually in the music used for Karaoke it rarely happens, there may be pieces that begin with a key and then during the execution the raise or lower it. Therefore? So, if we know the original tonality, let’s report it, otherwise let’s forget it: the application will make a hypothesis and the conversion will be less precise. But given the amateur use of the result, I would say that we can be satisfied.
The last step is to indicate the final shade we want to achieve. Here it is quite simple: just click on the right box. Then click on Transpose Now! and, once the conversion is finished, we download our new MP3 file.
Interpretation of English Notes
There is a problem, however, in using this application: the tones are expressed according to Anglo-Saxon practice. Now those who study music, or at least have studied it in the past, should have no problem interpreting the symbols. For the others, for those with little memory or who have never had the opportunity to learn to read music well, I report a small legend of the symbols used:
- C = Do
- D = Re
- E = Mi
- F = Fa
- G = Sol
- A = La
- B = Si
The symbols # and b, on the other hand, indicate the sharp and the flat. Or, in other words, a raising of a semitone in the first case, a lowering, always of a semitone, for the second symbol. But now I would stop, if you will allow me, before turning this article into a music lesson.
