The pros of each window style
Now that you know the most common window styles, it’s important to discuss the pros of each so you can make an informed decision on which is best when it’s time for custom window installation or to replace your current windows.
Casement windows – Known for being great at keeping out drafts, these windows tend to be better than double-hung and are very secure against intruders.
Awning windows – If it starts to rain while you’re away from your home, you don’t have to worry about water entering your home with awning windows.
Double Hung – As one of the most common window styles, the biggest pro is that almost every manufacturer will make these windows, so you’ll have endless options.
Fixed – These are windows you see in many condos and apartments in sky rise buildings because they are fixed in place and do not open or close.
French – Known for their ability to add a bit of glam to the exterior of your home, French windows are aesthetically pleasing.
Glass block – These are common for homeowners who want to add a bit of light to their space but don’t want a full window. They are also the most secure form of windows because of their heaviness.
Bay or bow – These windows are common in homes that have a pop-out cylinder in their design so their biggest pro is the design statement they create.
Skylights – Nothing says natural light and energy efficiency like skylights. Need we say more?
Sliders – They are hard to break because they do not have any crank or other pulling mechanisms to open. This makes them easy to use and cheaper.
