Having a great posture is among those non-negotiables when it comes to achieving the ability to project ourselves well in public and to perform physical tasks with ease. With poor posture, our confidence can be instantly affected, plus the fact that we might find it hard to accomplish even the simplest of daily chores.

Fortunately, there are people who can help those with problems concerning their posture. There are professional chiropractors in Midvale, Utah and other areas across the country who can relieve us of physical pains caused by issues in our posture. A chiropractor has the required knowledge, skills, and equipment to correct poor posture and offer freedom from lingering pain caused by such a problem.

You could also do some exercises to attain great body posture and reap its various benefits, with freedom from body pains and restrictions in movement among them.

But wouldn’t it be nice if you don’t have such physical constraints so you can have a better quality of life and a great confidence level?

Here are ways on how you can maintain your good posture while sitting, standing, and lying:

    Sitting

Many of us, especially those who work 9-5 jobs at offices, spend most of our waking hours sitting in front of computers. Because of this, improper sitting posture could lead to lingering pains that could negatively affect the way we perform our tasks.

You can ensure proper sitting posture by minding the following:

    • Plant your feet firmly on the ground, parallel to it. Avoid crossing your legs, ankles, and knees as it could cause undue strain on your muscles and joints.
    • Make sure that your knees are positioned below your hips or at least leveled to it. It should ideally be at a 90-degree angle all the time.
    • Use chairs that have proper lumbar support. Your backrest should offer ample support to your back at all times.
    • Change your sitting positions throughout the day. This goes to say that you should never sit in the same position for hours.

    Standing

While we may spend only a few hours standing during the day (this is relevant, of course), it doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t observe proper standing posture at all.

Be mindful of the following while you’re up on your feet:

    • Always stand up straight and do not slouch. Over time, slouching can be a habit that you won’t notice, which can lead to a permanent curvature of your spine.
    • Let your body weight rest primarily on your feet’s balls to avoid undue strain.
    • Do not stand on one leg.
    • Stomach in. Arms on the side.
    • Maintain your head on a level position – not leaning forward, backward, or sideways.

    Lying down

When lying down to rest or sleep, there are still good posture tips that you must remember, such as:

    • Do not sleep facing down, but facing up or on your side. For sideways sleeping position, be sure to place a pillow between the legs; for sleeping on your back, position a pillow under the knees.
    • Go for a mattress that reduces your back pain. For some, a soft mattress hits the right spot; for others, a firm mattress is a way to catch some snooze without straining the spine. Choose what works for you.
    • Use special pillows if needed. There are pillows that are specifically made for people with posture issues. Ask your chiropractor about the right one based on your specific posture concerns.

With these tips, maintaining your good body posture should be a lot easier, so you can avoid back pains and have that perfect form to keep your confidence level high.
