Sigma is the newest, 31st champion in Overwatch and he is already available in the competitive games. And it is his element, he is perfectly fit the most enjoyable and effective Double Barrier meta. The greatest mistake that is incredibly popular, especially at the low-middle ranks, – everybody thinks that Sigma is the main tank due to the Experimental Barrier. I can understand why, before Sigma, only main tanks hold barrier-deploying abilities, but Sigma is different. He is too squishy to soak a lot of damage. Overall, he is more like D.Va than Orisa, but instead of movement ability, Sigma was gifted with the barrier. The DPS output is incredibly high, he even could be considered as one of the low-tier DPS heroes, but do not be tricked by this power or you will be quickly deleted, leaving your team without the necessary protection. First of all, you are off-tank and that means that you need to support your team.
Sigma’s greatest advantage is in the most flexible and interesting Barriers in the whole game, awesome damage output (but you need to practice a little with these Hyperspheres) and the ultimate ability that is overpowered, especially if you will combine it with the any other DPS ultimate in Overwatch. Thanks to this arsenal Sigma insanely shook the whole stable OW meta and brings the new, hateful now, Double Barriers to the game. To efficiently boost Overwatch account as a tank you need to always be in trends and watch the competitive scene to be always be informed about the strongest heroes. Right now you need to know how to play both meta-tanks, Orisa and Sigma to always be able to carry games.
Sigma is an extraordinary hero and it is insanely hard to master him. His toolkit is perfectly fit for both off-tank’s options – dealing damage and supporting allies. To balance him, Overwatch’s developers increased the learning curve for this hero, otherwise, he will be too OP to be released into the competitive games.
Unlike most other heroes in Overwatch, that are easy to play but hard to master, Sigma is hard to play and hard to master heroes, like Wrecking Ball or Widowmaker. So you will need some recommendations about the most effective ways of playing this hero.
A few words about Hyperspheres
Sigma’s weapons are Hyperspheres and that weapon could be insanely tricky. Hyperspheres are being shot by two, flying up to the 20 meters and bouncing off any obstacles they will meet on their way. Each of the spheres deals 55 damage for the direct hit and 30 splash damage. The most important is the implosion that is pulling enemies towards the center of implosion (well, it is quite obvious, after all, implosion is the opposite of explosions!). So when you will master Sigma you will find yourself with the Gold damage medal quite often, but do not be toxic and do not highlight this achievement to your allies or you will break their morale.
If this ability will be used in the right way you will be able to easily hit every target, no matter how safe they are feeling. Even if they would be able to hide behind a barrier or behind a corner you still could find an angle to set both of your spheres in their flanks to implode right in front of them. With enough practice, you will be almost unstoppable and would easily earn the gold medals at the end of a match. But do not overextend, remember that you are off-tank in the first place. You need to support your teammates and peel enemies from your supports. Thank god, Sigma has more than enough defensive abilities for this job, but I do not think that it would be good to highlight them here, otherwise, it will be too long to read guide!
Playing as Sigma you need to always remember that you are not a DPS hero and you are feeling the greatest lack of mobility, so keep yourself from overextending and always stay around your allies, behind the protection of the Barriers and Support heroes. Keep these two simple rules in mind and you will easily secure win almost at every Overwatch map.
