Power plugs are the connectors that supply the electricity to electronic equipment when connected to the wall socket or in any other socket. In every house today, we find various plugs and sockets. There are different types of plugs and sockets depending upon the amount of electricity they can carry.
A plug that has three pins is connected to a matching socket. The topmost pin of a plug is always known for earth connection and the other two are electricity carriers. The plugs are made of good quality elastics so that there remains no fear of shock.
Power plug with 3 sockets (เต้ารับ 3 ตา, which is the term in Thai) is also known as Type B and Type D plugs. Each of them has different characteristics which are discussed below:
Type B Power Plugs
- It has 3 pins – two of 1.5mm thickness and one of 4.8mm diameter (for earthen).
- It has a grounded earth connection.
- Its current capacity rate is 15Amp.
- It works within 110-127Volt.
- Used in North and Central America, Japan, Canada.
Type D Power Plugs
- It also has 3 pins – two of 5.1mm and one of 7.1mm (for earthen).
- A grounded earth connection.
- Its current capacity rate is 5Amp.
- It works within 220-240Volt.
- Used in India and Nepal.
Warnings for Safety
- Wall sockets must be attached by the electrician only.
- Power plugs and sockets have to be identical for free-flowing of current.
- The voltage must be within the given limits. Otherwise, the short circuit may take place or the electronic equipment may be damaged.
- Keep power plugs and sockets away from children. Also attach the sockets higher in the wall, out of the reach of children.
- Do not touch the power plug with 3 slots (ปลั๊กไฟ 6 ช่อง, term in Thai) with wet hands or feet. It may result in electric shock and death.
- There are different rated sockets (mostly of 5 or more Ampire) for the fridge, AC, washing machine, chimney.
Never Place Electronic Plugs or Sockets Near Fire or Water
Although there are many other types of plugs and sockets depending upon their usage, voltage and current capacity, most of them are identical in terms of awareness and application. Therefore, one must take care of the warnings and precautions before dealing with such life-taking things.
