Why it’s important to start dental visits young

As a parent, you may be wondering when you’re supposed to take your children to see the pediatric dentist at your dental office and while it’s never too late to start now, it’s a good idea to get them in for their first appointment as early as 2 years old.

At your child’s first appointment, the pediatric dentist will count how many teeth your child currently has, help you establish a dental hygiene routine, and teach your child that the dentist is a good place to go.

They say good habits start young and this is especially true for oral hygiene. At 2 years old, your child will not have adult teeth, but they will have baby teeth. Baby teeth can get cavities. The sooner cavities are detected and corrected, the better off your child will be.

Aside from teaching your child good oral habits, catching any issues, and seeing how many teeth your child has, a pediatric dentist will help keep your child’s teeth strong by putting fluoride on their teeth during their first appointment and those thereafter.

The benefits of using a pediatric dentist

    • Gets your child comfortable going to the dentist
    • Helps with oral hygiene
    • Helps with preventative care
    • Catches any impurities right away
    • Give parents knowledge on where their child’s teeth development is
    • Helps teach your child how to properly use a toothbrush

When should you schedule an appointment with a pediatric dentist?

As mentioned, it is recommended to start pediatric dental visits as soon as your child is two or as soon as they have teeth come in. If you haven’t started your visits this early, now is the time to get an appointment scheduled. It is never too late.
