The State Bank of India will be conducting exams to recruit Junior Associates (customer support and sales). Lakhs of students prepare for the exam every year to be selected into one of India’s top banks. If you are preparing to become an SBI clerk 2021, smart work is more important than hard work.
A good understanding of what to expect from the exam based on analysis of previous year’s question papers and exam patterns can help you achieve your dream.
Prelims Exam
The prelims exam consists of mainly three sections.
- Quantitative Aptitude
This section contains questions that will test the candidate’s Numerical Ability. The difficulty level for this section is expected to be easy to moderate. Being well prepared in this section can help you score better.
- Reasoning ability
This section tests the aspirant’s ability to answer logic-based questions within the stipulated time. The expected difficulty level is easy to moderate. Questions in this section tend to be easy to answer provided the candidate has prepared adequately.
- English Language
This section contains reading comprehensions, grammar-based questions, error spotting, and questions on word usage. The section is expected to be easy for candidates appearing for SBI clerk 2021. A candidate who has a reasonably good grip over the English language can perform well in this section, even without a lot of preparation. 8-10 comprehension-based questions are expected, along with 5-7 questions from other topics.
Mains Exam
The mains exam results are the deciding factor since marks obtained for this stage will be considered for the final merit list. Hence, the importance of being well prepared can’t be stressed enough. The difficulty level of the mains exam is expected to be moderate to difficult.
The Reasoning Ability and Computer Aptitude section is expected to be difficult for candidates, and the Data Interpretation and Analysis section might be complicated and lengthy. Experts predict that the English language section will be the easiest with questions of moderate to difficult levels.
To crack the exam, you will have to clear each section’s cutoff and the overall cutoff. The cutoff is declared by the SBI only after conducting the exam.
Special Guidelines in the Wake of COVID-19
- Aspirants would be asked to wear a mask during the examination;
- Aspirants would also have to carry their water bottles, hand sanitizers, and pens;
- Aspirants may be required to have the Arogya-Setu app installed on their smartphone;

Effective Preparation Is the Best Strategy
The difficulty levels and question types cannot be predicted accurately by anyone. Thorough preparation of all sections is the only real way to guarantee success in the examination. Smart steps like attending mock tests and working out previous years’ question papers will help make your preparation stronger.
Setting time-based self-tests will help boost your confidence levels. Proper evaluation of your mistakes and attempts to reduce the number of errors is essential to feel well prepared.
