It’s a good question, what cabinet to purchase for my new bathroom. We recently remodeled and now I need to replace a few fixtures. Knowing the style and function of each cabinet is extremely important. Here’s some key points to help make my decision easy.
First, look at the cabinet’s specifications and identify if it has a UV light certification. The most common cabinet in our family is the typical uv light friendly biological safety cabinet that has an adjustable air supply and a ventilation port that can be manually or automatically adjusted based on humidity and temperature. This cabinet meets all the biological application demands described by OSHA. It also has an efficient locking mechanism to prevent against unwanted opening while providing effective airtight seals.
The next thing to look for is whether or not the cabinet is a class II or class III biosafety cabinet. A class II biosafety cabinet is one that is highly regulated and has a heavy duty locking mechanism. Class III biosafety cabinets are also highly regulated and feature tamper-proof seal systems along with multiple air leaks to keep biological hazards out. In addition to the locking mechanisms, the cabinet should have an automatic cooling fan to maintain proper humidity levels in the room.
Another point to consider is whether or not the cabinet is a safe design for the intended purpose. We use a uv light for air within our home and a uv camera for air outside the home. These units require very specific cabinet designs to meet their electrical requirements and humidity requirements.
Consider the electrical requirements as well. Most UV lights and biological safety cabinets have an electric source to operate and are therefore only suitable for electrical cabinets that have electrical requirements. Be sure to find out which specific components are required by your cabinet to operate and if your cabinet require one of these items, the more specific you can find the cabinet, the better. The cabinet must meet the electrical requirements of all of your biological safety cabinets, air purifying cabinets, and a lightening cabinets.
Uv lightening cabinets also need to be designed with this in mind so that UV lights do not damage sensitive material such as wood.
